Welcome to my website,
My name is Rutger Bus and I was born in the city of Groningen, The Netherlands, in 1978. Currently, I’m living together with my wife and two beautiful daughters in a small town called Roden in the province of Drenthe. I think I got interested in photography when I was young. My dad used to have a Darkroom where he was developing his photo films. Off-course, I was not allowed to enter that room, so I always wondered was was going on in that little dark room with the red light.
As for today, I like being in nature and that is why my hobby, photography, also mainly focuses on nature and landscape photography. Since I have a full time job, it is difficult to spent a lot of time on my hobby, so I try to pic out the right moments and always plan my photo trips in advance to get the best out of the moment. That’s also the reason why I named my site “Photographic Moments“.
I started in 2005 with a point and shoot camera from Casio. This 4MP camera was mainly used for taking snapshots and funny photos. But it soon became clear to me that I needed something better to take my photo’s with. Along the way, I purchased a Panasonic DMC-FZ20, a nice compact camera with a large zoom range. Using this camera, I learned what the terms P, S, A, and M, meant and how I could use these settings to manipulate the light in a way to give the photo I’ve already had taken in my head. Eventually, Then, I decided to bring my photography to the next level and in 2006 I moved to my first DSLR camera.
My first DSLR was a Nikon D80. A fantastic DX crop sensor (1.5x) camera that assisted me well until late 2012. Then, in September 2012, I took the leap to a full-frame DSLR and purchased a Nikon D700 with a 24–70mm f2.8 Nikkor zoom lens. A beautiful camera which I hope to use for a long time and shoot some beautiful images with.
As you can read in the text above I am a so called autodidact, I taught myself by looking at many other photographers, snooped around on forums and of course a lot of trial and error in terms of composition and image post processing. The results of my photographic journey can be found and viewed on this website.
